PWA Question | How do children learn? |
PWA Answer |
Children learn through enriching their lives with stimulating experiences. This can be as simple as doing tasks such as reading together or wandering around the garden or local park looking at nature. Learning is making connections in the developing brain and is an ongoing process throughout life. Playing games to help them think in new ways can also help your child learn. Almost every game is set around one or more aspects of executive functioning. Even just playing a game requires your child to listen to the instructions and then follow them. So, by definition, playing a game is actually working on executive functions. For example, in the game ‘Simon Says’ players listen to an instruction, understand it and carry it out. As your child grows, you can try more sophisticated games to develop skills further. For example, matching games played with cards require your child to use their executive function skills. This is because they need to bring in flexibility of understanding to recognize different characteristics on the cards and match them up. But then any game that you play with your child is building their executive function skills. UTM-EM-053-APR-21 |
