PWA Question | What is self-control? |
PWA Answer |
Self-control is an executive function skill which helps us to aim for goals and manage our emotions or impulses. This skill helps a child to make better choices, behave appropriately with others, concentrate and ignore distractions, and to be measured. In a nutshell, it is how we stay focused. This is a key skill for kids when it comes to learning, but impulse control doesn’t develop in children until they are around four years old. This is why it’s common to see children crying when they don’t get their own way, or grabbing toys from other children. But you can pave the way for your child to develop self-control with some easy age-appropriate techniques. For example, creating some simple rules and helping your child understand the emotions they are dealing with can help them with this essential skill. UTM-EM-053-APR-21 |
