PWA Question How can I keep my child engaged in games or activities?
PWA Answer Varying games can help keep a child engaged. The amount of time they stay engaged will depend on the age of the child.

It’s also important for you to stay engaged as you play and interact with your child. For instance, keep asking your little one questions as you read their favorite book and talk about the story together afterwards too. By staying engaged and asking open-ended questions such as, “Who was your favorite character in the story? Why is that?”, you’ll encourage your child to think back on the book, and chat about it with you. This can start a talk about other story books and characters your child enjoys, or new interests they have discovered.

Keep games and activities to a length which is appropriate for your child to avoid them losing focus or getting bored. It can also be a good idea to give your child a little freedom to choose what they want to play or read. Helping to make sure that they will really enjoy whichever activity you are doing together can go a long way when it comes to keeping them engaged and excited. Plus, they may be more likely to retain information too.

Reward in terms of praise can also go a long way, too ; don’t forget to give your child lots of genuine praise during and after activities they are doing. An encouraging response from you can lead to a positive impact on how engaged your child will become as they try to do well.
