To set up, find a hiding place for a toy that {LEARNER_FNAME} likes. Don’t let {OBJ_PRONOUN} see where you hide it. Then, choose a spot where {SUBJ_PRONOUN} should begin the treasure hunt.
Create a short list of instructions on how to get from {POS_PRONOUN} starting spot to the toy’s hiding spot. Instructions might include things like, “Take two big steps forward”, “Face the TV and step forward” and “Kneel and look under the nearest chair”. To start, include only three actions (you can add more if {LEARNER_FNAME} can successfully follow three-step instructions).
Say: Pirates have captured your favorite toy! But they left a list of directions to explain how to get it back. Listen very carefully and remember the instructions to follow.
Slowly read the instructions out loud. When you are done, tell {LEARNER_FNAME} to begin. If {SUBJ_PRONOUN} strays too far, return to the starting point and read the instructions again. You may need to give {OBJ_PRONOUN} a reminder to help {OBJ_PRONOUN} move in the right direction. |
