PWA Try this
|
Invite {LEARNER_FNAME} to play a game with you (outdoors if possible).
Say: I'm going to be the leader, and you're going to follow along and copy what I do!
Lead {LEARNER_FNAME} around the space, performing a variety of movements with your body. For example, start by patting your head for several steps, then stop and walk normally.
Next, switch to walking with your arms out to the side. Again, walk normally after a few steps.
Try hopping, spinning, wobbling, and any other actions that {LEARNER_FNAME} will love imitating. |
PWA Variations
|
|
PWA What to look
|
Watch {LEARNER_FNAME} **as you stop performing the action**, especially toward the end of the game once {SUBJ_PRONOUN} has a knack for the rules.
How long does it take {OBJ_PRONOUN} to stop the silly action and walk normally again? In other words, how quickly did {SUBJ_PRONOUN} control the impulse to keep moving one way? |
PWA Why this matters
|
For many children, not knowing the rules or not listening isn't what gets them into trouble; it's not being able to control their impulses. Practicing activities that exercise {LEARNER_FNAME}'s Impulse Control will help {OBJ_PRONOUN} keep {POS_PRONOUN} body and behavior under control in settings where it really matters. |
