PWA Try this
|
Find a book {LEARNER_FNAME} likes that uses words that are repeated often, such as Dr. Seuss books. (We are using "cat" as an example below.)
Say: Listen to my voice. You will have to listen very carefully. Whenever you hear me say the word “cat”, clap your hands.
Practice by reading the first few pages of the book, and see if {LEARNER_FNAME} claps each time you read the designated word. Praise {OBJ_PRONOUN} if {SUBJ_PRONOUN} is successful. If {SUBJ_PRONOUN} misses one, read the sentence again; if {SUBJ_PRONOUN} still does not notice, remind {OBJ_PRONOUN} to clap when {SUBJ_PRONOUN} hears the word “cat”.
If {SUBJ_PRONOUN} is successful, add in some music as a distraction. Say: Now I’m going to play some music! Ignore the music and listen to my voice. Whenever you hear me say the word “cat”, clap your hands.
Play a song with words {LEARNER_FNAME} knows in the background and continue reading the book. |
PWA Variations
|
This task can also be adapted to other settings, such as if you are in a noisy restaurant, or there is a repetitive noise in the environment (clap every time you hear a dog bark). |
PWA What to look
|
How well does {LEARNER_FNAME} follow the word and clap with no music? Does {SUBJ_PRONOUN} still clap for the right word after you add the musical distraction? |
