PWA Try this
|
Invite {LEARNER_FNAME} to play I Spy with you. If necessary, introduce the rules. Say: I'm going to describe something that I can see with my eyes, and I want you to guess what it is. But the rule is that you can't yell it out; you have to wait for me to tap you on the head to say it.
Choose something to "spy," and make it very obvious. For example, say: I spy something that is brown and hairy and likes to bark and lick.
Wait a few seconds before tapping {LEARNER_FNAME} on the head.
Play at least five rounds, and watch how {LEARNER_FNAME} improves! |
PWA Variations
|
I Spy is always a great game to play in the car. Instead of tapping {LEARNER_FNAME} on the head, come up with a different cue for when {SUBJ_PRONOUN} can give you the answer. For example, say Go! instead. |
PWA What to look
|
Pay attention to how often {LEARNER_FNAME} needs to be reminded not to blurt out the answer.
- Do you have to remind {OBJ_PRONOUN} before every round?
- Can you get away with reminding {OBJ_PRONOUN} only ever other round? |
PWA Why this matters
|
{LEARNER_FNAME} is going to be so excited to give you the correct answer that it's going to be hard to keep it inside! This kind of Impulse Control will go a long way toward helping {LEARNER_FNAME} be successful in the classroom because the same patience and focus is required to listen to all of the teacher's directions or to raise {POS_PRONOUN} hand before speaking. |
