| PWA Try this | Play a treasure hunt game once through by hiding multiple objects such as toys around the house. Start with four or five objects. Give {LEARNER_FNAME} clues about where to find the toys – you can even make a map to exercise {POS_PRONOUN} spatial memory. Once {SUBJ_PRONOUN} finds all the toys, tell {OBJ_PRONOUN} you’re going to hide them again, in exactly the same spots. {SUBJ_PRONOUN_T_CASE} can even help you do it. The challenge is that {SUBJ_PRONOUN} won’t get any clues to help find them the second time around. Before {LEARNER_FNAME} starts hunting for the toys, ask {OBJ_PRONOUN} to tell you which items {SUBJ_PRONOUN} is going to look for. This shows whether {SUBJ_PRONOUN} remembers which items you used. Enjoy the treasure hunt! |
| PWA Variations | |
| PWA What to look | Try to keep track of how many toys {LEARNER_FNAME} could name before going to look for them. Also note whether {SUBJ_PRONOUN} remembered where they were. {SUBJ_PRONOUN} may remember part of an object’s location, such as the area of the house that it’s in. {SUBJ_PRONOUN} may be surprized if {SUBJ_PRONOUN} doesn’t find an object or finds a different one – this just indicates that {SUBJ_PRONOUN} is in the process of developing {POS_PRONOUN} working memory. |
| PWA Why this matters | Repeating a game can be a great way to add working memory skills to any experience. To perform better, {LEARNER_FNAME} will naturally use {POS_PRONOUN} skills to try some strategies again, and change those that didn’t work as well. UTM-EM-049-MAR-21 |
