PWA Tags Indoor;Shapes/ Colors
PWA Try this To prepare, collect around five to ten different toys such as stuffed animals or action figures. Try not to choose toys that look very similar to each other. Sit across from {LEARNER_FNAME} and put all the toys out of {POS_PRONOUN} view. Then choose three toys from the pile to place on the table in front of {OBJ_PRONOUN}. Say: Look! Some of our toy friends are at a party together, and introduce each toy. Then say: Oh no, the lights are out and ask {LEARNER_FNAME} to cover {POS_PRONOUN} eyes until you say. While the "lights" are out, switch one toy from the table with one that is hidden underneath.  Tell {LEARNER_FNAME} to open {POS_PRONOUN} eyes. Then, say: It looks like one of the toys snuck out, and a new toy is here. Can you tell me who the new toy is? If {SUBJ_PRONOUN} succeeds with three toys in the group, increase the party to four toys with one replacement. Keep increasing the number of toys until {SUBJ_PRONOUN} can no longer tell which toy has changed. To make this activity harder, instead of replacing one toy with another, take a toy away. See whether {LEARNER_FNAME} can name the toy that is missing.
PWA Variations
PWA What to look See how many toys you can place in front of {LEARNER_FNAME} while {SUBJ_PRONOUN} can still figure out which one is different.
PWA Why this matters Remembering all the toys that were at the party is a way to see how many items {LEARNER_FNAME} can store in {POS_PRONOUN} memory, without needing to list each one. If {SUBJ_PRONOUN} can tell which toy has changed (or which toy is missing), it means {SUBJ_PRONOUN} also remembered that the rest of the toys were there before. UTM-EM-049-MAR-21
