PWA Try this
|
Create a pretend ice cream shop by setting out four different colors of "ice cream." To create the scoops of ice cream, you can either use different colors of play dough or draw and color some circles on paper and cut them out.
Ask {LEARNER_FNAME} to be the shopkeeper and name the ice cream flavors available. {SUBJ_PRONOUN} can make these up based on the colors of the paper you used (brown could be chocolate, red could be raspberry, and so on.)
Order your ice cream by naming some of the flavors and asking {LEARNER_FNAME} to give them to you in the same order, with the first flavor on the bottom. If {LEARNER_FNAME} mixes up the order, that’s okay. Ask {OBJ_PRONOUN} to try again. Get some favorite dolls or stuffed toys involved by ordering ice cream too. |

PWA What to look
|
Pay attention to how many different flavors of ice cream {LEARNER_FNAME} is able to give you in the correct order. When {SUBJ_PRONOUN} makes mistakes, is it the order of the ice cream or the combination of flavors that trips {OBJ_PRONOUN} up? |
PWA Why this matters
|
This game helps to improve working memory, which is connected to many areas of development. For example, it helps with communication because it allows {LEARNER_FNAME} to remember the beginning of a sentence so {SUBJ_PRONOUN} can understand the middle and end. It also helps with problem solving as {LEARNER_FNAME} works to keep track of all of the important pieces of a problem, and it even touches everyday functions, like following instructions or remembering where a particular object is.
