Prepare by picking a room to do the treasure hunt in and four or five “treasures” (toys) to hide.
Say: Let’s go on a treasure hunt. I’m going to hide these toys around the room, and you need to find them as quickly as you can. But watch out for pirates! If you hear me being a pirate making a noise, freeze right where you are so I can’t see you.
Ask {LEARNER_FNAME} to cover {POS_PRONOUN} eyes, and then hide the toys around the room. When all the toys are hidden, tell {LEARNER_FNAME} to start searching while you wait outside the room.
Every few minutes, walk into the room and pretend to be a pirate – {LEARNER_FNAME} must freeze like a statue. After you’ve had a look around, leave the room again.
Continue until {LEARNER_FNAME} finds all the treasure. |

PWA Why this matters
|
While {LEARNER_FNAME} runs around the room looking for treasure, {SUBJ_PRONOUN} will have to stay alert to incoming pirate footsteps so they can pause the treasure hunt and freeze. This exercise will help to develop self-control.
