PWA Try this Sit in a group with as many players as you’d like. If it’s just you and {LEARNER_FNAME}, just take turns. The first person starts by saying something they like to do. For example, they might say: I like to draw.   The next person in line then repeats what the first person likes to do and adds his or her own interest: I like to draw and play soccer.  The third person repeats both of the activities and adds a third, and so on.  Keep going until the list is too long to remember. It’s okay to give prompts as it gets longer by miming actions or saying words that rhyme with the activity if {LEARNER_FNAME} needs help remembering.
PWA Variations
PWA What to look Keep track of how long the list got. What was the greatest number of items that {LEARNER_FNAME} remembered? Repeating what others had to say helps keep the players’ attention focused. This encourages every player to keep all of the information active in their mind – even when it’s someone else’s turn. By using scaffolding techniques to help {LEARNER_FNAME} remember more, you’re providing a way to develop memory as well as a way to test it.
PWA Why this matters Working memory plays a significant role in so many areas of {LEARNER_FNAME}’s development. In addition to basic communication, reading, and problem solving, Working Memory also plays an important role in the ability to follow instructions. As young children approach kindergarten, they will be expected to be able to follow multi-step directions. UTM-EM-049-MAR-21
