| PWA Try this | For this game, you will need two similar toys, such as cars or blocks, but they should be two different colors. Pick one car that {LEARNER_FNAME} should follow and place a small sticker on the bottom (or tape a small piece of paper to it). Say: Your challenge is to catch the red car – don’t let it get away. Keep watching the red car, so you know where it is. Move both of the cars around the table for five seconds. Then ask {LEARNER_FNAME} to point at the car {SUBJ_PRONOUN} was supposed to follow. Let {OBJ_PRONOUN} turn it over to check for the sticker to see if {SUBJ_PRONOUN} is right. Increase the amount of time that {SUBJ_PRONOUN} must track the cars moving around to 10 seconds and/or increase the number of toys moving around to three. Occasionally switch which car has the star, so {SUBJ_PRONOUN} has to focus on a new color |
| PWA Variations | |
| PWA What to look | Count how many times {LEARNER_FNAME} is able to successfully track the car {SUBJ_PRONOUN} is supposed to follow. Even if {SUBJ_PRONOUN} doesn’t get it right, note whether {SUBJ_PRONOUN} seems engaged and paying attention to the cars. |
| PWA Why this matters | All those moving cars will seem pretty fun, and it might be easy for {LEARNER_FNAME} to get distracted. Keeping {POS_PRONOUN} attention focused on remembering which car has the star is great practice for {LEARNER_FNAME}’s working memory. UTM-EM-049-MAR-21 |
