| PWA Lead | In this game, {LEARNER_FNAME} will try to remember new beats that you make up for each other. |
| PWA Materials | Household items (bowls or boxes) that can be used as drums |
| PWA Progress Marker | Remembers drum beat sequences consistently;Remembers some drum beat sequences;Remembers more and more drum beats in a row |

| PWA Try this | Choose four or five household items that would make good drums without being too fragile. Try plastic bowls or cardboard boxes. Lay them out between you and {LEARNER_FNAME} so they are all within easy reach. Take turns coming up with sequences of drum beats by tapping on different drums with your hands (for example, first tap a bowl, then a box). Start with two beats. Have {LEARNER_FNAME} repeat the sequence by tapping on the same drums. Then it’s {POS_PRONOUN} to come up with a two-beat sequence for you to try to copy. When {SUBJ_PRONOUN} can do two-beat sequences a few times in a row, add another beat, so {SUBJ_PRONOUN} plays three beats in a row. Keep adding beats when the sequence gets easy. See how many {SUBJ_PRONOUN} can remember in a row. |
| PWA Variations | |
| PWA What to look | Keep track of how many times {LEARNER_FNAME} can remember which drums to play. Each time {SUBJ_PRONOUN} plays three sequences in a row successfully, add one more. What is the longest sequence {SUBJ_PRONOUN} can remember? |
| PWA Why this matters | This fun drumming activity helps to develop working memory, using both motor memory (remembering which drums to tap) and auditory memory (remembering what sound each drum makes). UTM-EM-049-MAR-21 |
