PWA Try this
Prepare by printing or sticking at least 12 pictures of animals onto small cards or pieces of paper. Include some land creatures (such as a lion, dog, and spider) and sea creatures (such as octopus, dolphin and fish).
Lay all your cards out on the table and explain that different animals have some things in common. For example, a lion and a cheetah are both cats. They could also have the same number of legs, live in water or on land, or both have a tail.
Challenge {LEARNER_FNAME} to find two animals that are alike in some way and try to guess why {SUBJ_PRONOUN} chose them.
Then swap roles: you point to two animals, and ask {LEARNER_FNAME} to guess what they have in common. |

PWA What to look
As {LEARNER_FNAME} chooses pairs of animals, make incorrect guesses and note whether {SUBJ_PRONOUN} corrects you. Can {SUBJ_PRONOUN} explain the right answer? |
PWA Why this matters
This game practices abstraction, or coming up with different ways to categorize objects based on different features, which helps develop cognitive flexibility. Finding features in common shows that {LEARNER_FNAME} is able to adjust his thinking and should be able to extend that skill to other things.
