PWA Try this
|
Go outside so {LEARNER_FNAME} has space to run around. Explain that this is a running game and the actions your hands make will be controlling {POS_PRONOUN} speed. When your hands are held wide apart, this means run fast; if they are held close together, this means run slowly. But there’s a twist to this game – {LEARNER_FNAME} has to do the OPPOSITE of what you say.
So, when your hands are close together, {SUBJ_PRONOUN} should run as fast as {SUBJ_PRONOUN} can, and when your hands are far apart, {SUBJ_PRONOUN} should walk as slowly as {SUBJ_PRONOUN} can.
Ready? Go! Stand where {LEARNER_FNAME} can easily see you, and have {OBJ_PRONOUN} run towards you. Begin to control the speed of {POS_PRONOUN} running. You can also shout the instructions "Slow" and "Fast" if {SUBJ_PRONOUN} is further away. |

PWA What to look
|
Does {SUBJ_PRONOUN} miss any cues? How quickly does {SUBJ_PRONOUN} respond to changes in the instructions? |
PWA Why this matters
|
When {LEARNER_FNAME} hears an instruction from the toy, {POS_PRONOUN } intuition will be to follow that command; but {SUBJ_PRONOUN} must use self-control in order to do the correct (that is, the opposite) action. Practicing this challenging and complex rule switch is great way to develop this skill.
