PWA Try this
|
Prepare 5 paper plates and use scissors to cut out little holes at the right place for {FNAME_LEARNER}'s eyes and nostrils. Stick a wooden stir-stick to the bottom of each plate as a mask handle. Please be careful when using the scissors.
Invite {LEARNER_FNAME} to decorate and create masks of different roles by drawing lip, hair, eyebrow, mustache, etc. on the plates. For example:
Family members: Grandpa, grandma, dad, mom
School members: Teacher, classmates, school bus driver
Invite {LEARNER_FNAME} to role-play! Tell a story and {SUBJ_PRONOUN} has to pick up the correct mask and pretend to be that person and say something. For example:
It is grandpa's birthday party! He receives a gift. Where is grandpa? What does he say?_
Grandma is singing the "Happy Birthday" song. Where is grandma? Sing like her now!_
Give {LEARNER_FNAME} big applause for the wonderful performance in different masks! |

PWA What to look
|
With all the interesting masks created, can {LEARNER_FNAME} play different roles of the story? |
PWA Why this matters
|
Children tend to start to imitate as early as 2, and enjoy imaginative activities even more at around 3-4. Role-playing is excellent for developing {LEARNER_FNAME}'s cognitive flexiblity, which allows {OBJ_PRONOUN} to see situations from different perspectives.
